Teeny Tiny Tweets

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I did not record any cute sayings this week, but these are a few things I remember the little miss saying:

Then the raccoon opens up and a butterfly comes out!

I was just playing a joke on Daddy last night when I told him I loved him.

I don’t love him at night because he says mean words. I only love him in the morning.

I LOVE Halloween! This is SO. MUCH. FUN!!! (really wish you could just hear her say it)

Can we go to the hospital again some time? Me: Why? So we can get a baby sister!

Me: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Umm…to be a butterfly!? Cuz they’re like super powers, right? Sure…

Emma-isms

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

This post will be short and tweet sweet. I don’t have much material, and really need to be cleaning our house instead of writing! (What else is new?) So, here are some Emma thoughts:

During a discussion after Joy School on things from nature versus things made by man, Emma said, “Yeah, we did nature-made and man-made, but we didn’t do girl-made.”

“Daddy likes to make people hot outside.”

And when she told me I couldn’t sing along with the radio: “No, this one doesn’t have a boy and a girl. They’re not in love.”

Emma vocab: Twickled, as in, “The bunny’s nose twickled.”

And she has taken to calling me Mud, as in short for Mother, or Mudder

Last, as she is very proud of every time she poos, she also frequently includes descriptions for us (yes, this may be slightly inappropriate, but when you’re a parent you’ll understand):

“It was the teeniest poop ever. It looked like a round little baby head.”

“It’s a huge one. A snake one, but cut apart. And moldy.”

And on that note, have a splendid, twitterific Tuesday!

Spoiled Milk

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Before I get too much into this, I will explain first that this was all inspired from a tweet I read, which is why this is a worthy topic for today.

Out of all the places I have lived, I have spent the most years in Wisconsin, and I must admit that I have a bit of the dairy state ingrained in me. I love my ice cream, cheese, etc. Growing up, our home went through milk rather quickly–we pretty much only drank milk and Kool-Aid. Now, when I met Lloyd, at the impressionable age of 17, he had many things which he felt very strongly about, and among these things was milk. Milk = evil. Of course, since I had no pleasant inclinations toward Lloyd at first, this only added to my dislike. How could my precious dairy be bad?!

Obviously, I got over my distaste for Lloyd, and I began listening to the things he had to say, and to look into them myself. Somewhere along the line I decided milk wasn’t as great as its advertising, but at the same time, I could not do away with it. I mostly stopped drinking milk, but nothingwas keeping me from my ice cream. After all, I hadn’t seen any adverse effects from consuming it thus far. So this stayed in the back of my mind.

Well, I get crazier (I think it runs in both sides of the family!). Someone tweeted an article from USA today that brought out all my old suspicions, and I began digging again. This particular article addressed the concept that it is not rather amazing that people should be lactose intolerant, but that they should be tolerant. The article is rather interesting, but I will not go into its summation. I will get to my point.

We’re cutting out dairy. Detoxing. We’ll see where this leads us. According to the proponents of the evils of milk, if we get rid of it, we should see better digestion, perhaps weight loss, clearer skin, more restful sleep, and in general just feel better. I’m not saying I’ve become completely crazy and I think everyone must stop digesting dairy, but I’d like to give it a try. Test it out.

I’m going to need to do a little more research, though. I’m slowly using up our dairy and substituting in other things, but I’m not so sure of the things I’m substituting. For instance, I chose soy milk because it contains a good amount of protein, but in reading more on it, I am afraid I may have exchanged one evil for another. Clearly, this will be quite an experiment, but I will continue to research and find better substitutes (or hope to cut some things out completely!). For now, I am aiming on cutting out dairy for 6 months, and then perhaps bringing it back in small amounts to see what it affects; however, I have recently read that it only takes 7 days to detox, so this will be a changeable process.

Of course, I will update with changes, outcomes, and probably some good recipes that I come across. And I’ll let you know how we’re all dealing with our lack of cheese and ice cream! (Already tried some tofutti ice cream sandwiches, which were surprisingly delicious! But then I read a couple comments on connecting tofu with infertility…yikes!)

P.S. Can we all pretend this was Tuesday’s post, not Wednesday’s? Just because it’s after midnight does not mean my day has ended!

P.P.S.  Haha! I just discovered I can back-date the post, so now my previous comment makes no sense…but I feel bad deleting it, so that’s why I am adding an additional postscript. That’s all.

Tiny Tweets

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Well, the day’s not over yet, and I am determined to not break my blogging streak! I procrastinated today in hopes that the mail would bring a new battery for my broken phone so that I could retrieve my list of funnies from their storage on said broken phone, but, alas, battery did not arrive, and then I was just plain busy taking care of kids and running to dance practice, and watching a little Wolverine, and putting baby to bed…are you exhausted yet? I am! Letting Emma play a little longer so I can write this, even though I know it’s unwise, as we have to get up early for school tomorrow. So, to the point! I have gathered some new tweetable moments, but some of them are actually longer than an allowable tweet, so you’ll just have to pretend. And I know I had some really funny ones on my phone; these are not as impressive, but I have nothing else planned, and my day is coming quickly to an end. Without further ado, here are some tweets from tiny people–my Emma and her friends:

“You know God? I have a book about him.”

*sigh* (in awe) “Why is IKEA so good? So everybody likes them.”

“In 70 hours I’ll be 16 and have my own car and drive everyone around.”

(to her brother) “Medical bills are not for babies!”

“I’m the biggerest.” (There was actually an ongoing argument about who was the “biggerest.” Nerd that I am, I found this pretty funny.)

“If you go under the sheets one more time, you’ll die and go to be with the Heavenly Father again.”

“Hi. I’m not this big. Bye.”

Playing pretend. A present for Mommy: “It’s an audiobook of Australia. It talks and opens, and you can jump in it–it’s a Dora book. It has 5 DVDs.”

And a present for Daddy: “Here, it’s removable teeth.”

Guest tweet of the week: “I don’t want to talk to your pants.” (Thanks, Emily and Hadley!)

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Gonna go get my kiddo to bed, finish Wolverine
, and get some sleep, while visions of Hugh Jackman float in my head (I hope so, anyway!).

Makin’ Baby Food

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I always had this super cool image of myself as a mommy. Among the many amazing things I would do, one of them was making my own baby food. Never happened with Emma. This time around, I have a friend who also wanted to do it, though, so we motivated each other and finally scheduled a time to make some of our very own, all-natural baby food. I would like to also add, that one certain husband implied that he believed I would never do it, and if you know anything about me, you know that I refuse to told what I will and will not do. So possibly out of spite, in an effort to prove him wrong, I went on this adventure. And as it is a tweetacular day, here is my day, in tweet form.

10:30 a.m.
Decided to reuse baby food jars, despite numerous websites against it.

10:35
Probably should sterilize jars. Mtg at 12. Such a procrastinator.

10:38
No time for dishwasher. Using microwave bottle sterilizer

10:58
Picking up Emma from Joy School. One batch sterilized.

11:20
Something smells like burning.

11:22
Note: Metal jar lids and microwave NOT a good match

12:00 p.m.
Jars ready. Just found I need to buy more veggies

12:30
Left sleeping baby with sleeping daddy. Grocery shopping.

1:05
Grocery boy charged me for ong ppr, not squash! Wouldn’t correct. :(

1:20
At friend’s. Food making already underway.

1:50
Sweet potatoes ready! Boiling and steaming.

1:55
Hesitantly watching friend salt food. Uptight about baby salt intake.

2:00
Puree swt ptto in blender. Looks good.

2:50
Did beans, corn, squash, and zucchini. Friend’s freezer full. Kitchen mess.

3:00
Almost home. Weighing time spent.

3:05
Baby awake. Wishing I had used nap time differently.

3:10
End conclusion: time more precious than money. Buying my baby food!

I also found my end cost to be slightly more than some of the store-bought baby food on sale. But, that’s also because I got overcharged for my squash! A small batch of carrots or sweet potatoes would certainly be worth it, but I also like the variety of being able to buy apple, mango, kiwi in a jar–doubt I’d ever make that at home. Especially considering how precious nap time is around here, I would certainly have rather done something else. And let’s also factor in the clean-up involved. Ugh.  Gonna take the lazy path on this one!

(P.S. For those of you hoping for more Emma tweets, I’m sorry. III slobbered all over my phone last night, and it quit working. My running list of Emma quotes is saved on my phone. No phone = No tweets. If I can manage to revive it, I’ll post then, or I’ll try to remember some of them later!)

And if anyone would like a little more detail on the exact food-making process, I’d be happy to share–just ask me!

Emma Tweets!

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Over the course of this last week I have been writing down some of the random things Emma says. I think these would all make for some fun tweets, but don’t judge me for what she says. I’m not sure where she gets some of it, but I’m sharing anyway.

Take him off, Mommy! He’s killin’ my heart.”

“All my animals have good healthcare.”

“All my friends are boys, but they all went to the circus. Then they came back and we went to kill the killer.”

“The ashes are killed. That is the killer guy.”

“Australia! I’ll take a shot of that one.”

“There’s poop bird on my window. You can clean it off at the gas station.”

“She always cries and says, ‘Pepto!’ That’s her dog’s name.”

“Well, pretend kids live in the wall.”

“And then almonds came and scared her awake.”

Need I say more? I may keep writing stuff down and make a post just for her every week!

Tweet Water

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Did you know that the most popular twitter user is aplusk–also known as Ashton Kutcher? Over 3.3 million people follow him. Isn’t that unbelievable? 3.3 million people are reading what he has to say. He’s not some world leader, or humanitarian; he’s just a guy with an acting career. And 12 years ago he was a biochemical engineering student at the University of Iowa, working at General Mills for 12 bucks an hour. Started modeling in Iowa and moved on to New York City. Seriously?? It’s Iowa. In twelve years he moved from being just another college student to being a guy that 3.3 million people want to listen to. It’s actually pretty cool. I’m impressed (and a little jealous). Doubt he thought when he entered that first Iowa modeling contest that he’d be marrying Demi Moore one day.

All this to say–what’s he tweeting anyway? Well, amongst all the muckiness of responding to other people about hanging out, and endless updates on fantasy football, he actually had something useful up today. With the intro, “This video is really cool,” he’s got a link to the story of charity: water. I think my brother was the one who first opened my eyes to the shortage of good drinking water in other countries, and it’s encouraging to see things changing. I know a lot of times we Americans aren’t really doing much to help others help themselves, but I think this is different. Supposedly 100% of donations go toward building wells for countries with bad water. I think it’s a good thing to be a part of.

Check it out: http://www.charitywater.org/whywater/

So today’s tweet goes out to aplusk: RT @aplusk: This video is really cool http://bit.ly/3mdJc Pretty awesome project to be a part of!
